How much it really costs
The venue is usually a fifth of the bill or less. Our estimates, built from the prices in this guide plus typical catering and vendors.
All-in estimate · €4.5–12K for venue and food
All-in estimate · €16–28K for venue and food
All-in adds drinks, photo & film, flowers, music and a planner. Excludes flights and guests' own lodging. Off-season dates (November to March) can run 30–40% cheaper.
6 questions to ask every venue
The cheapest-looking quote isn't always the cheapest wedding.
Is VAT included?
Italy adds 22% on venue fees (10% on food and rooms). France adds 20%. On a €9,000 fee that's almost €2,000.
When does the music stop?
Lake venues often end at midnight or 1am. Some castles run to 3am, and a few venues have no limit at all.
Who controls the kitchen?
An imposed caterer can double the real cost of a low fee. "Free choice, no corkage" keeps your total close to the quote.
Legal or symbolic ceremony?
In France the legal wedding happens at the town hall. Many couples marry legally at home and celebrate abroad.
Minimum nights or beds?
Many estates rent Friday to Sunday. Some charge for unused beds, others bill beds on top of the hire.
Is it all in writing?
One dated quote with the year, VAT basis, inclusions, deposit schedule and cancellation terms.
Getting married in the South of France?
Send me a DM with your venue and date. I'll tell you if I'm free and share how I'd photograph your day there.
